At just the right distance – welcome, Diana, Lukas and Muhammad!

“A diverse mix of voices leads to better discussions, decisions, and outcomes for everyone,” says a famous quote from Google CEO Sundar Pichai on corporate diversity. This goes well with TSCNET Services: The people who work for us come from many different countries and cultures. The trio of entrants in the Service Operations unit is a perfect example of this.

Let’s just take Lukas Leitner, the new Junior Operations Manager. The 26-year-old is Austrian, but was born in South American Colombia, lived in Malaysia 18,943km away (yes, the rumour is true: he once met Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher there …) and spent most of his life in Germany and Bavaria respectively. In the past seven years Lukas studied energy technology at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg and graduated there in October with a “Master of Science” specialising in electrical energy supply. During his studies, he had already worked for Siemens in the EM DG POC (Energy Management / Digital Grid / Protection, Operation & Control) department and had already become familiar with some of the aspects of the work of a Regional Security Coordinator (RSC). He chose TSCNET Services “because the team spirit, the work ethic and the general environment convinced me – and all this has proven to be absolutely true already in the first days”, says Lukas.

27-year-old Diana Yule has also lived on three continents to date. She comes from Colombia and after completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and electronics respectively, worked there for four years in the field of energy efficiency and networks. She has also lived in the United States. There, the sports enthusiast Diana shone as a football player, among other things. “I generally liked team sports better, but after entering professional life it was easier to start running because of the working hours. Today I like it at least enough to run half marathons,” she says. If there’s a call for sport somewhere – she’s there! This also is true for her move to Germany and her start at TSCNET Services: Electricity grids already were her thing, but she finds the European one to be the most interesting. Now she wants to settle in Germany and build her social circle in Munich, while she can deepen and broaden her knowledge in her profession.

The background of the third newcomer to Unit Service Operations, Muhammad Sibghat-Ullah (also simply called Sibghat), is also not so easy to explain. The new Operations Manager comes from Vancouver on the Canadian west coast – 8,338km from Munich. After a bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power System engineering, he also obtained a “Professional Engineer” license in the province of British Columbia, Canada, which certifies him to take professional responsibility for his projects in BC. He has at least six years of experience in power system engineering with specialist knowledge in areas such as load flow analysis, substation planning and design, protection and control planning, design and commissioning as well as project management. In addition, he has an MBA from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, to make a good start in the European energy industry. “I joined the company three weeks ago and it was a terrific experience so far,” says Sibghat. “Being a relatively new company, I believe TSCNET can present tremendous growth opportunities. I work in a team of fantastic colleagues and every day brings a new learning and social experience. I am finding life in Germany pretty amazing since living and working in Europe had been a dream of mine.”

Power supply for Team Operations – welcome, Ana!

Apart from being the biggest team at TSCNET Services, Team Operations is also the fastest growing one. Living up to its dynamic reputation, the team has welcomed a new member: Ana Veselinović. Ana started her carrier at the Serbian transmission system operator (TSO), Elektromreza Srbije, right after she had finished her bachelor studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia. During her first year of working in the market division as an administrator of electricity market, she also continued and finished her master studies.

After two and a half years Ana decided to focus her carrier on grid operation and system analysis, so she changed into the Department for system dynamics and studies at the TSO’s System Operation Division. There she was also charged with doing N-1 steady state analysis. “Throughout my career, starting from my studies till this day, I was focused on the transmission system, especially on security and reliability,” says Ana. “Nowadays, with the increasing renewable sources of energy, the security of the grid is one of the biggest challenges – and a great opportunity for people working in the power grid sector.”

Ana is profoundly convinced that TSCNET Services is the best place to attain more knowledge and to work on the pulse of system security and reliability. “I am happy that I’m in a team of experts to learn from and to improve my skills”, says Ana. “This job with its many aspects and new experiences is really a complex one – but it’s no problem if you love it, if you are ready to learn, and if you’re a part of a strong team.” Seeing Ana’s enthusiasm and team spirit, we are sure that we have just welcomed another powerful addition to our staff!

Best of both worlds – two new operators

Every company or institution has its specific culture, processes or methodologies, and TSCNET Services is no exception to the rule. In this regard, the staffing of highly specialised positions with internal applicants has many advantages. On the downside, an external specialist’s view might open up new perspectives on our own business. That is why TSCNET Services decided to benefit from the best of both worlds. Early this year, we opened Operator positions to external applicants for the first time.

Now TSCNET is pleased to welcome two new Operators, who are completing our team in Munich since the beginning of July: Daniel Kuric, coming from the Croatian member TSO HOPS, and external Operator Miguel Santos from Portugal. With Miguel (on the right of the picture), the broadening of our search for dedicated professionals has already paid off. Daniel and Miguel fit perfectly into the multinational spirit of TSCNET and their fresh, outside perspective is definitely an added value to our team!

Both of our new colleagues decided to apply for a position in our Team Operations due to the excellent career opportunities TSCNET is offering as an international company with clear perspectives. When arriving in our office in Munich, Daniel and Miguel immediately experienced the special work atmosphere at TSCNET Services and the “international team work vision”, as Miguel puts it. Also Daniel appreciates the “stimulating multicultural environment”.

Apart from taking up the same position and responsibilities within TSCNET, Daniel and Miguel both share a great interest in the broader perspectives of the power engineering coordination process. And for both of them, joining our team means to test and expand their respective professional experience and knowledge on an international level. “My main motivation was to learn about and to understand the complex system behind the simple fact of having electricity in our homes”, says Miguel. The joint learning is already progressing at full speed: “The synergy of both business and team processes is a perfect proof of how efficient processing can be, when everybody strives for the same goal,” describes Daniel. May their new role at TSCNET provide all the answers and experiences they are looking for!

Old environment with new horizons – change of job within TSCNET

No matter how interesting and exciting a job is, sooner or later every employee may feel the lure of a change in profession or may just fancy a new challenge. That may mean leaving the old workplace behind in search of a new, professional “promised land”, while also learning new skills along the way. It’s an opportunity for a qualified and experienced employee – but a great loss to the company. On this view, TSCNET Services offers and promotes a different solution: Change your job without changing your employer.

This is what Tin Bobetko did: In 2015, he had started as an Operator within TSCNET’s Operations team, coming from TSC member HOPS, the Croatian transmission system operator (TSO). As of now, he works as Business Implementation Manager in the Business Development team. With his eight years experience in Power System Engineering, he is responsible for the development and implementation of new tools, processes, products, and technologies to boost the services TSCNET provides to its customers. “Throughout my working career, I’ve always been enthusiastic about projects that required a lot of teamwork and offered the possibility to acquire new competencies and to evolve in various areas,” Tin says. This attitude is highly valued by the head of his new team, Mario Princip: “Tin joins us at an enthralling and challenging time, and both his vast experience and his urge for knowledge will help get a strong tailwind in our sails.” For a ship on its course to new destinations, that sounds like a most promising start.
