New HVDC technology for Ultranet

08.12.2015

Ultranet is a part of one of the three planned high-voltage direct current (HVDC) powerlines to run from the north to the south of Germany and therefore a mainstay of energy transition. TSC members Amprion and TransnetBW, two of the four German transmission system operators (TSOs), today have revealed the advanced technology behind the ULTRANET converter together with their technology partner Siemens. The converters at either end of the 340kilometre transmission line with their new “full bridge technology” will have a transmission capacity of 2,000MW each and are designed to make power transmission more secure and to lower power losses.
