All of us can only guess the future. But one thing seems perfectly clear: The future of power transmission is centred on IT and the use of data.

Digitisation will profoundly change our world. Some people cheer the enormous technological possibilities between Big Data and Smart Grid, while others worry about data security and warn against misuse and attacks on our infrastructure. With TSCNET Services, this is not an either-or, but a convinced both-and. In terms of data protection and cyber security, we are just as much a pioneer and prime example as we are in using huge amounts of data to secure our electricity transmission networks and integrate energies from renewable sources. Talking of the grid’s future also means talking about digitisation if you do not want to miss out on a majority of the opportunities.

Secure and reliable
Around the clock, 365 days a year, our experts access forecast data on the electricity load flows of transmission system operators from all over continental Europe. For each of the 24 hours a day, we use high-performance computers and specially developed programs to calculate the entire transmission network with its approximately 43,000 network elements for possible congestions and security risks. The N-1 rule applies: Network security must be guaranteed even if a component such as a substation or transmission line fails or has to be switched off for repair, for example. To be able to guarantee this for our entire network on a transnational basis, TSCNET Services runs millions and millions of computer processes every day.

In addition to our customers, the TSOs from Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland, we also make important results available to other Regional Security Coordinators (RSCs) in Europe. This information is improving the security, efficiency, and sustainability of our energy system. The data we provide, helps to cope with the increasing system complexity.

ISO/IEC 27001 certification
We and our partners have many ideas for the future of the power transmission grids – most of them are related to digitisation. We act as one of the pioneers and groundbreakers in  the energy sector. And we are well aware of our responsibility. As a specialised service provider for European TSOs, we are part of the public infrastructure that is indispensable for people and companies in Europe. Data protection and information security are our absolute priority. With our processes and our comprehensive information security management system (ISMS) we are certified according to ISO/IEC 27001.
