Register for InnoGrid2020+

Only three days left to register for the 4th Annual InnoGrid2020+ in Brussels, Belgium, starting on 31 March. The two-day European R&D conference for electricity transmission and distribution grids is held by the European Network for Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) and the European Distribution System Operators for Smart Grids (EDSO).

French and German power markets

Two new country profiles commissioned by Agora, a German “think tank and policy laboratory that focuses on dialogue with energy policymakers”, delineate France’s and Germany’s power systems. Both reports describing e.g. regulatory systems and country specific energy policies can be downloaded for free.

Danish CEO appointed as president

09.03.2015

Peder Østermark Andreasen, CEO of the Danish transmission system operator (TSO) and TSC member Energinet.dk, will take up the position as President of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) on 1 July 2015 for a two-year term. Andreasen wants to “focus on establishing even closer cooperation between the 41 TSOs from 34 countries as well as forging a stronger position for these TSOs”.

Applying R&D results

The new “R&D Application Report”, published by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), describes and values the application and deployment of theoretical and practical results provided by European TSOs’ research and development (R&D) projects. The report accentuates concrete impact of these projects for Europe and depicts the main barriers.

Europe’s ten-percent club

Today, the Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) by European TSOs and NGOs informed about European Commission’s communication on “Achieving the 10 % electricity interconnection target”. Every member state is called upon to allow for at least ten percent of their electricity to be transported to neighbouring countries. Currently, twelve countries have not yet met the objective.

Successful with modest changes

“Germany has so far managed to integrate and balance high shares of renewable energy with very modest changes to its power system,” says Eric Martinot, Professor at Beijing Institute of Technology and renowned international energy authority, in his article for www.energytransition.de, an experts’ blog about the German Energy Transition (“Energiewende”). Martinot describes quite detailed, which technical and regulatory changes allowed Germany’s power grid to “remain highly reliable” with renewables providing 30 % of the country’s electriticy demand.

New shareholders

TSCNET Services GmbH welcomes three new shareholders: The Danish transmission system operator (TSO) Energinet.dk, the Hungarian TSO MAVIR, and the Polish TSO PSE have been registered as shareholders, following an increase in share capital. Now all thirteen member TSOs of the TSO Security Cooperation (TSC) hold an equal share of ownership.

Partial solar eclipse

When the moon passes in front of the sun, a partial solar eclipse will take place on March 20. Today, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) published some detailed information about the measures the European TSOs take to maintain security of supply on the eclipse day. The grid experts are sure, “that operational coordination among European TSOs will be crucial”.
