Largest DC grid connection of the world

Today, Siemens handed over the world’s largest direct-current grid connection in Germany to the Dutch-German TSO TenneT, a member of TSC. The transmission capacity is 800 megawatts (MW) – enough to supply about one million households. The offshore platform of the BorWin2 grid connection using Siemens’ HVDC Plus technology is located northwest of the German island of Borkum in the North Sea. It is said to be “the first offshore grid connection worldwide to take up commercial operation with efficient direct-current technology”.
